LIST OF ISSUES
ETHICS
The issue that got Al involved and running is that of ethics reform. Our state has some of the weakest ethics standards in the entire country. Big business and their army of lobbyists have bought your government, picking the winners and losers and subverting the free marketplace. When elected, Al will fight every year to ban gifts to lawmakers and to reinstall campaign finance limits.
CHOICE/BIRTH CONTROL
Al believes that women should have control over their own medical decisions, in consultation with a doctor. Also, birth control should be included in health insurance plans.
PUBLIC SAFETY
In the rash of school shootings in our country over the last few years, my opponent has supported legislation to allow guns in schools. Guns in the hands of people with the bare-minimum of training have no place in our schools, and could potentially even make a bad situation worse. The Republicans have even sponsored legislation that would make it a crime for our law enforcement to enforce laws against illegal firearm dealers who provide weapons to criminals.
MEDICAID EXPANSION
Medicaid Expansion in Missouri will bring in 20,000 new, good paying, jobs to our state. This is money that our state is turning down, but states like New Jersey and Michigan (states with Republican governors) are taking. This is a program that will pay for itself in the long run. While in the short term 1,400 people in our state will die unnecessarily per year.
